Google Shopping Products Disapproved: What Each Error Means
Short answer: some disapprovals are account policy problems; others are product / feed data problems. Fixing the wrong layer wastes weeks.
Why Google Shopping products get disapproved
- Account-level policy issues
- Missing product data
- Incorrect brand
- GTIN / identifier issues
- Variant issues (color / size)
- Misrepresentation
1. Account-level policy issues
These are not “one title is wrong.” Google may limit or suspend the whole Merchant Center for policy (for example misrepresentation, counterfeit signals, or repeated violations). Cleaning a single SKU won’t clear it.
What to do: read the account notification in Merchant Center first; appeal or fix account compliance there.
2. Missing product data
Required Shopping attributes missing—image, price, availability, title, link—often show as item issues. Catalogs imported from 1688 → Shopify are especially prone to empty or placeholder fields.
3. Incorrect brand
Using a factory / supplier name as brand (or leaving brand blank when Google expects one)
is a common disapproval path for dropship and 1688-sourced catalogs.
What to do: use the brand shoppers recognize for your storefront—not the 1688 vendor string.
4. GTIN / identifier issues
Fake or recycled barcodes are a hard risk. If you don’t have a real GTIN, use the compliant identifier exists = no path with a real brand—don’t invent codes.
5. Variant issues
Color and size that don’t match the offer, or “attribute walls” stuffed into titles, confuse matching and policy checks. One clear color + one size per offer beats a supplier-style title dump.
6. Misrepresentation
Landing page, price, or product claims that don’t match the Shopping listing. Often account-level when systemic.
How to tell whether it’s an account or feed problem
- Many SKUs, same policy code, or account banner → start with account.
- Scattered item issues (title, brand, GTIN, image) → start with feed / catalog data.
- Mixed → fix account blockers first, then clean the feed.
